Meet Coach Alexis
A proud Oakland native, Alexis Gray-Lawson is a Cal basketball legend, WNBA veteran, and now head coach of the Oakland Tech Girls’ Flag Football Team—one of the first CIF-sanctioned high school flag football programs in the city.
In her first year, she launched a historic season, drawing over 60 student-athletes to tryouts and forming both A and B teams. Her leadership quickly gave the team a reputation for competitiveness, discipline, and strong camaraderie.
Gray-Lawson’s coaching style balances athletic performance with personal growth, academic accountability, and emotional wellness. Players describe her as “tough but caring,” offering both structure and support as they navigate sports and life.
After a decorated basketball career at UC Berkeley and in the WNBA and overseas, she brings elite experience and a trailblazing spirit to the football field—creating an empowering space for young women to thrive. She remains a passionate advocate for girls in sports and a key figure in shaping the future of high school flag football in California.
